Ole’ Hickory chuckles in his grave

Glenn Greenwald is able to use the large picture as a lens to focus on a specific event or problem better than any other writer I am aware of. But he, like all writers, has his limitations, and they really pop out in his Jan28 The Intercept piece about DTDuck imposing a “Muslim ban” with the Jan27 Executive Order. Nevertheless, Glenn Greenwald is Glenn Greenwald, which means the piece is superbly organized and his thoughts and concerns are stated with crystal clarity.  Anything this guy writes is a good read, even if you don’t agree with all of his assertions.

While Americans finally begin to wake up to the seriousness of police brutality in their communities, what they have yet to realize is that draconian Israeli surveillance, security, and always-shoot-to-kill tactics are being exported throughout the world — including to so-called “free societies.”

Photo of Aaron Swartz breaking into MIT computer room according to government documents.

It is not that unusual for a perp to try and blame his victim for the damage the victim suffered at the hands of the perp. But it is a whole new twist when the victim is blamed for the perp’s own demise, particularly when the perp dies from suicide. Every since Aaron Swartz was found hanging in his apartment, his family have been all over the press blaming the prosecutors and the victims of Swartz’s alleged felonies – MIT and a data sharing organization called JSTOR. The rising chorus of righteous indignation for having prosecuted Aaron Swartz reached a crescendo – I hope – yesterday when Swartz’s father declared at the funeral that “The government killed my son.” Pretty heavy stuff.

Post #538 — Paul C. Garner — Orly Taitz wanna’ be — sues TEPCO in a US federal court over the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami

USS Ronald Reagan

Paul C. Garner, a NY lawyer licensed in California, has just filed a lawsuit against the Japanese nuke company TEPCO in behalf of 10 US Navy personnel and one baby girl.  If you are into ignoramus lawsuits, you’ll want to dig into this one.  Here’s the summary from Courthouse News, but don’t be a sucker and buy their copy of the complaint.  Those rat-bags will charge you over $30 and it cost them $3.10.  Here it is for free:  Complaint.

Post #537  Estimating the minimal number of armed morons in the U.S.: Ted Nugent + 55,999 and counting.

It’s the question everyone has been asking since the Sandy Hook killings: How many armed morons are there in the U.S. anyway?

Well, we still don’t have a handle on the maximum estimate, but we’re getting a pretty good feel for the low end of the guess.  As of the moment 56,000 people have signed the White House petition to deport Piers Morgan over his anti-assault weapon diatribe, so you know there are at least that many armed morons in the country . . . and counting.

Post #534  Sandy Hook’s Dead Kids — Cui Bono?

Update Dec22.2012

Here is HuffPo’s list of filthy rich gun mongers.
And here is Lawrence O’Donnell’s 19-minute dissection of “cornered rat” Wayne LaPierre.

Eventually we’re going to have to have this difficult discussion. Might as well be now. In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre someone has to ask the question: Who are the idiots who get rich manufacturing and selling the high-powered weaponry that is used by whackos to kill people en masse? Who are the bolt-dolts who acquire multi-million dollar homes and who live up-scale lives by virtue of their essential roles in putting those weapons in the hands of Adam Lanza and his ilk? Who are the people who in their greed are more than willing to play their role in empowering losers like Lanza to kill children? I mean — I’m not being rhetorical here — let’s name names.

Post #533  Video of sexual assault by Texas troopers — criminal proceedings?

Texas trooper Kelley Helleson, looking for a job soon if she’s not in prison for sexual assault.

The cruiser-cam vid from July13.2012 of two Texas troopers conducting illegal, warrantless body cavity searches and illegal warrantless searches of the victims’ car has gone viral, and we need to keep it going. It is clear from the video and from the resulting lawsuit that these Texas troopers – David Ferrell and Kelley Helleson – ought to be indicted for assault, battery, sexual assault, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, and, perhaps, larceny.  They are going before a grand jury in January, according to Dallas NBC., but we all know how local DA’s present cases against their pigs to grand juries in a way that will guarantee no indictment is returned.  The Kelly Thomas case (#525, below) is a good example.  This Texas case will more likely end up as a federal prosecution.  It’s already a federal civil action.

Post #532  Sludge-Warriors lose a leader

Maureen Reilly

The electronic age makes many things commonplace that were impossible only decades ago.  One of those things is becoming friends with people you never actually meet, if “meet” means encountering them physically, face-to-face.  Over the past few years I’ve had dozens of Em exchanges and a fair-few telephone conversations with the toughest anti-sludge advocate I know, Maureen Reilly.  But I’ve never had the chance to shake her hand or give her a “real,” i.e., non-verbal, hug.  Now that she is gone, at the age of 58, I feel like I’ve known her all my life.  That lady had, well . . . a presence where it matters most: in people’s hearts.

Post #530  Why Nancy Lanza was right to own the guns that killed the Sandy Hook kids.

Louie Gohmert, the Gutter Grunt’s Idiot Texan of the Year nominee

Welp, there was little doubt that even before the kids could be buried, the right wing-nuts would grab the mic and start screaming that if the teachers had been armed everything would have turned out just fine. I was expecting Allan West to be first out of the wacko-box, but an NRA nut-case Republican from Texas beat West to the draw. Louie Gohmert went on – yep, you guessed it – FOX news to spew his toxic shit about how the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School should have had an M-4 in her office, just waiting for armed loonies to come through the door so she could blow their head off – Gohmert’s phrase.

Post #529  Juan Cole milking the Sandy Hook tragedy for all he can get

Nothing quite like the slaughter of innocent children by a heavily armed nut to bring out the polemics. The NRA has their PR goons already on standby ready to adapt the ole’ more-guns-means-a-safer-America message so that it points out that if those kindergartners had only been armed, this never would have happened.

Equally as noxious will be the lefties pounding their intermittent drum for gun control – the drum that comes out not at election time when it might do some good, but only after a bunch of people get shot up. The more people shot and the younger they are, the louder the drums.

Partisans from both sides will gnaw on each other’s asses for a while and then give it up and go home once the smell of gunpowder has cleared the air.

Juan Cole is a good example. I’ll give you a direct quote:  [Keep reading. . .]

James Moody empties his clip into the body of Ernesto Duenez

James Moody, a cop for the Manteca PD, shot and killed an unarmed man named Ernesto Duenez – firing 13 rounds at the guy as he tried to get out of his truck but got his foot caught in the seatbelt. From the video it looks like murder-2 to me, but if Moody ever gets prosecuted for that it’ll be a fine day.  What was Duenez’s crime?  There was a report on him for domestic violence.  But his crime was being Hispanic in a scum-bucket California town.  Read more.

LogoPhere’s the Daily Dish for Tuesday, Sep25.2012

Bloged in America, BigBro, Good cop/Bad cop, Potpourri, Courts by Gutter Grunt Tuesday September 25, 2012 at about 8:08 pm

Petri dish art by Klari Reis. I would call this one “Chromic Lucidity.”  More here.

1.  How courts and cops filter “free” speech — a tale of two tales.

One would think that after a number of deaths, including a US ambassador, and millions of dollars of property damage, Google would at least apply the same standards against Islamophobic videos as it does against anti-Semitic videos or videos that deny the Jewish Holocaust and remove the Islamophobic crap.  But Google, which owns YT and, as I have already pointed out, was founded and is run by Jews Sergey Brin and Larry Page, has turned a cold-shoulder to reason.  YT continues to broadcast and promote multiple incendiary (literally) versions of Innocence of Muslims all around the world, with a few exceptions where individual countries have intervened.

Google had an opportunity to acquiesce to reason when one of the actresses of IoM, Cindy Lee Garcia, sued Google in California state court to try and stop the viral madness.  She moved the court for an emergency injunction against Google to force it to take down IoM immediately before she or others get hurt.  However, Superior Court Judge Luis Lanvin denied Garcia’s emergency request to make YT take down IoM.   Of course Brin and Page could have pulled IoM from YT on their own and directed their lawyers to agree to the motion, but since the speech is anti-Muslim and not anti-Semitic, they figured the “free speech” issues were too important and challenged Garcia’s motion.  And prevailed.   Free speech is alive and well in the US, so long as it’s not anti-Semitic.

The UK and a number of other countries go about this objective of filtering “free speech” in a different way.  The UK, Germany, Sweden, and Canada. etc. use anti-hate speech laws to “adjust” the content of speech so that people say only what the authorities say they can say.  Again, anti-Semitic speech is favored over most other types as a target for such enforcement, but you wouldn’t want your speech to piss the cops off, either, as Neil Swinburne found out.

The UK had a horrible tragedy where a one-eyed freak named Dale Cregan, who was wanted for two murders, killed 2 female cops.  As England was overcome in spasms of media-hyped remorse for the dead officers, Facebook pages supporting Cregan began appearing.  The 22 yo Swinburne put one up saying “So a pair of coppers got killed, who gives a shit?”  It’s a rhetorical question, but it’s also a fair question in a country where cops are becoming notorious for blowing away unarmed people, sometimes holding them down and shooting them point-blank in the head as they did to Jean Charles de Menezes.  So, in my book at least, “who gives a shit?” is not an unreasonable question.

But the UK authorities see their role as preventing such questions from being asked in public discourse.  They busted Swinburne and charged him under the 2003 Communications Act , presumably under Section 127’s provision that

A person is guilty of an offence if he— (a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character

Pretty subjective sort of stuff, which is, of course, the point.  But even if the cops can’t get the charge against Swinburne to stick or if they eventually drop it, they have accomplished their goal merely by prosecuting him, for the prosecution is itself punitive, and the cops know that, which is the whole point.  It’s also the whole point of why people hate them so much and why they post rhetorical questions like “Who gives a shit?” when two of them get killed.  And so it goes.

2.  Another day, another plane full of customers screwed by AA

Man, I am really beginning to think NBC is as disgusted by AA’s (Asshole Airlines) business model as I am.  The model is: Screw the customer for as much money as you can, and then just screw the customer. I have already reported on three NBC reports blasting AA just this month.  Here, here, and here. Now we have a fourth.

The problem this time was an idiotic/infantile on-board spat between two hostesses.  One of them went through the normal protocol of telling everyone to turn their gizmos to the off position for the duration of the flight while the other one kept talking on her gizmo, which led to a verbal altercation between the two pre-adolescent women and the fight returning to the gate for 4 hours until replacements could be found.  Of course AA lied to the media about the whole thing, saying the flight was delayed “a short while.”  It was a 30 minute flight delayed for four hours, or for long enough that the passengers could have driven to their destination.

On Sep18.2012 Scott McCartney at the Wall Street J., wrote an article about how AA pilots are sabotaging the company.  Less than 50% of AA flights arrive on time, and then the pilots to the go-slow bit on the ground.  AA keeps cancelling large numbers of flights due to pilots calling in sick.  The deal is that AA is in bankruptcy and the pilots want to push it over the edge so it will have to merge with another company, probably US Airways, which offers them a better deal.  And then these idiot AA employees will get to fuck up yet another company.  As McCartney concludes: It is probably a good idea to avoid AA. McCartney’s trying to push them over the edge, too.  Welcome, Scott, your pain is our pain.

3.  Slut-bombs away!!  Madonna is now certified psychotic.

Like, oh, yeah . . . I’m going to change my vote to Obama because our favorite stage-slut Madonna endorses him.  The scary thing is that any human could possibly exist who would change their vote b/c of what this worn out old stage slut says, but if there is any country on earth where you could hope to find people brain-ded enough to take political advice from uber-slut Madonna, it is America.

Naming her tour MDNA is symptomatic of fulminating psychosis — as if we needed any more symptoms to make the diagnosis — but telling her audience that Obama is a “black Muslim” and they “better vote for fucking Obama . . . goddamnit” pretty well eliminates any possible alternative diagnoses.  She’s now bona fide and certified.  All we need is for that other uber-slut, GaGa, to come in here and tell us to vote for Romney, goddamnit.  That will really screw up some twisted some minds — those who are fans of both.  If you want to take political advice from entertainers who have no qualifications or knowledge whatsoever for giving such advice, I suggest you listen to Clint.

The Daily Dish for Tuesday, Aug14.2012

Petri dish art by Klari Reis

1.     City of brotherly love Nutter mayor slapped down by federal court.

When Democratic Philadelphia’s mayor, Michael Nutter, outlawed feeding more than three homeless people at a time, it, understandably, upset a lot of people. Nutter was, after all, treating homeless people like they were bears in Yellowstone, or annoying squirrels or pigeons in the city’s parks. So Nutter and Philadelphia got sued, and no one with a brain will be surprised that the city lost the fight against a preliminary injunction that will allow the poor to be fed until the suit is completed. Anyone with a brain will be surprised, however, to hear that Nutter is appealing the preliminary injunction to the federal circuit court. How many of these people could Philadelphia treat and feed with the money that will be going into the lawyers’ pockets? Thousands.

2.     Israel Supreme Court flips off the Hague Convention and shields kiddie kidnappers.

Israel has ignored many UN resolutions over the last 60 years and has refused to sign the non-proliferation treaty; consequently, Israel is considered by many, including many Americans, to be a rogue state. Now more evidence supporting this view: refusal to abide by the Hague Convention on Child Abduction. This is a treaty, signed by Israel, that requires a state to which a child has been abducted to return the child to its home state.  Most of these cases come up when one parent steals the children and runs off to another country to avoid court orders. The problem is that Israel considers itself to be the “homeland” of all Jews. So, for instance, when a Jewish abducts her child and takes the child to Israel, Israel thumbs its nose at the Child Abduction Treaty and at the US court’s orders. At least that’s what the Israel Supreme Court has done in the Ben-Haim case.  Oshrat Ben-Haim, who abducted her child to Israel, has been indicted in NJ on 2 counts of contempt of court and 6 counts of, essentially, kidnapping and the Israeli court says “screw you, the kid is a Jew.”  The case is important to every Jewish parent in the US b/c if Israel lets parents abduct children to Israel with immunity from prosecution, then every Jew mother and father in the US is a potential victim of having their child stolen by the other parent.

3. Is Fukushima heating up again?

Prior to the 3/11 EQ and tsunami that plastered Japan, the area underwent a period of fairly high-frequency, moderate EQ’s.  In the last few days there has been a double-whammy killer EQ in Iran, and today a huge 7.7 Richter off the coast of Russia, just north of Japan.  According to the very helpful Nicholls Japan EQ map, the frequency of moderate EQ’s around Japan is also picking up.  The problem is that Reactor #4 at Daiichi is not stable; it is listing to one side.  Some experts have predicted that if it goes over the release of radioactivity from the stored fuel rods will threaten the entire human species, and certainly all the human species on the west coast of North America.

4.  Chris Hedges let’s it rip.  Tattoo this article on your forehead.

Writer Chris Hedges is one of the brave plaintiffs suing Obama and Congress for passing a law that can be used to take any American off the sidewalk and put him/her into permanent administrative detention, the same way the Israelis do the Palestinians.  In an article published yesterday he let’s it rip — pretty well saying what needs to be said.  Here is his summary of the presidential election :

They each [Obama and Romney] intend to let Wall Street loot the U.S. Treasury with impunity. Neither will lift a finger to help the long-term unemployed and underemployed, those losing their homes to foreclosures or bank repossessions, those filing for bankruptcy because of medical bills or college students burdened by crippling debt. Listen to the anguished cries of partisans on either side of the election divide and you would think this was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of darkness. You would think voting in the rigged political theater of the corporate state actually makes a difference. The charade of junk politics is there not to offer a choice but to divert the crowd while our corporate masters move relentlessly forward, unimpeded by either party, to turn all dissent into a crime.

Mohamed Osman Mohamud: The Plot Thickens

Bloged in America, BigBro, Good cop/Bad cop by Gutter Grunt Saturday October 1, 2011 at about 3:21 pm

According to the FBI, at 5:40 pm on Nov26.10 Mohamed Osman Mohamud [MOM] pressed the “send” button on a cell phone with the intention of detonating a fake bomb placed by FBI agents in the midst of a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, OR.  They busted MOM before he could get his finger off the button.

On the same date an FBI agent name Ryan Dwyer filed a criminal complaint against MOM in federal court in Portland and obtained an arrest warrant signed by Magistrate Judge John V. Acosta.  Dwyer backed up his complaint with a 36-page affidavit, referred to here as the “Dwyer Affidavit.”  Given the timeline, it is clear that the Dwyer Affidavit was written well before MOM pressed the button.  I mean how do you write a 36-page affidavit between 5:40 pm and the time the courthouse closes, or even before midnight???  This timeline alone is enough to lead to the conclusion that MOM was set up by Dwyer and friends.

FBI redux: At least one question gets answered.

Bloged in America, BigBro by Gutter Grunt Monday December 6, 2010 at about 9:33 pm

In yesterday’s post on the Portland, Oregon non-bomber case, I asked: Why would the FBI dress up  Mohamud like OBL and video him reading a long written message?  Assuming the FBI wrote the message, which is likely, the video would have scant evidentiary value.  So why go to the trouble?

The answer pops up today in an AP article by Jeff Barnard and Nigel Duara about Mohamud and his history.  In that article Barnard and Duara refer to a “cell phone video obtained and aired by Portland station KPTV last week . . . KPTV won’t reveal how it obtained the video, which lasts less than a minute.  It is not known who recorded the video clips . . .”

Although it is clear that Barnard and Duara had access to FBI agent Dwyer’s affidavit, which I linked to yesterday, and which describes setting the video up, and which gives a verbatim transcript of the video, Barnard and Duara miss the obvious.  The quotes in the Barnard/Duara article, which are the quotes from the clips shown on KPTV, are word for word from the transcript of Mohamud’s video in the Dwyer affidavit.

Come on, AP dudes.  Are you so seriously dense that you can’t see that the unknown source of the KPTV clips had to be the FBI?  According to the FBI’s own affidavit, they shot the video.  They are the only ones who could have access to it or who could have passed it to the TV station.

As to my question why would the FBI go to the trouble to make the video, the answer is now obvious.  They didn’t shoot the video just to have it bounced out of court as illicit and inadmissible evidence.  They shot it for the local news.  They shot it in order to taint the jury pool.  They shot it to scare Portland citizens even more so that Portland would re-join the JTTF.  That was the whole reason behind the Mohamud set-up and bust to begin with, as explained in yesterday’s post, below.

Stasi, Mossad, Hitler’s SS, KGB, FBI.  So, what’s the difference, particularly when Americans — and Mohamud is an American — have more to fear from their own FBI and their so-called Department of Justice than Al Qaeda?
