Ole’ Hickory chuckles in his grave

Glenn Greenwald is able to use the large picture as a lens to focus on a specific event or problem better than any other writer I am aware of. But he, like all writers, has his limitations, and they really pop out in his Jan28 The Intercept piece about DTDuck imposing a “Muslim ban” with the Jan27 Executive Order. Nevertheless, Glenn Greenwald is Glenn Greenwald, which means the piece is superbly organized and his thoughts and concerns are stated with crystal clarity.  Anything this guy writes is a good read, even if you don’t agree with all of his assertions.

Sep05.2013 — Obama, then and now

Bloged in Middle East, Israelis, America, Constitution DoA by Gutter Grunt Thursday September 5, 2013 at about 11:30 am

Remember the good ole’ days when a jive-talkin’ Senator Obama was punkin’ his way into the White House with all the self-assurance of a Chicago pimp with a Cadillac full of good looking white ho’s?  On Dec20.2007 Obama sat down with Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe and answered some very, very direct questions.  As we know now, the answers were, like so much of Obama’s rhetoric, total BS designed to tell the public what they wanted to hear.

Post #538 — Paul C. Garner — Orly Taitz wanna’ be — sues TEPCO in a US federal court over the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami

USS Ronald Reagan

Paul C. Garner, a NY lawyer licensed in California, has just filed a lawsuit against the Japanese nuke company TEPCO in behalf of 10 US Navy personnel and one baby girl.  If you are into ignoramus lawsuits, you’ll want to dig into this one.  Here’s the summary from Courthouse News, but don’t be a sucker and buy their copy of the complaint.  Those rat-bags will charge you over $30 and it cost them $3.10.  Here it is for free:  Complaint.

Post #537  Estimating the minimal number of armed morons in the U.S.: Ted Nugent + 55,999 and counting.

It’s the question everyone has been asking since the Sandy Hook killings: How many armed morons are there in the U.S. anyway?

Well, we still don’t have a handle on the maximum estimate, but we’re getting a pretty good feel for the low end of the guess.  As of the moment 56,000 people have signed the White House petition to deport Piers Morgan over his anti-assault weapon diatribe, so you know there are at least that many armed morons in the country . . . and counting.

Post #534  Sandy Hook’s Dead Kids — Cui Bono?

Update Dec22.2012

Here is HuffPo’s list of filthy rich gun mongers.
And here is Lawrence O’Donnell’s 19-minute dissection of “cornered rat” Wayne LaPierre.

Eventually we’re going to have to have this difficult discussion. Might as well be now. In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre someone has to ask the question: Who are the idiots who get rich manufacturing and selling the high-powered weaponry that is used by whackos to kill people en masse? Who are the bolt-dolts who acquire multi-million dollar homes and who live up-scale lives by virtue of their essential roles in putting those weapons in the hands of Adam Lanza and his ilk? Who are the people who in their greed are more than willing to play their role in empowering losers like Lanza to kill children? I mean — I’m not being rhetorical here — let’s name names.

Post #533  Video of sexual assault by Texas troopers — criminal proceedings?

Texas trooper Kelley Helleson, looking for a job soon if she’s not in prison for sexual assault.

The cruiser-cam vid from July13.2012 of two Texas troopers conducting illegal, warrantless body cavity searches and illegal warrantless searches of the victims’ car has gone viral, and we need to keep it going. It is clear from the video and from the resulting lawsuit that these Texas troopers – David Ferrell and Kelley Helleson – ought to be indicted for assault, battery, sexual assault, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, and, perhaps, larceny.  They are going before a grand jury in January, according to Dallas NBC., but we all know how local DA’s present cases against their pigs to grand juries in a way that will guarantee no indictment is returned.  The Kelly Thomas case (#525, below) is a good example.  This Texas case will more likely end up as a federal prosecution.  It’s already a federal civil action.

Post #532  Sludge-Warriors lose a leader

Maureen Reilly

The electronic age makes many things commonplace that were impossible only decades ago.  One of those things is becoming friends with people you never actually meet, if “meet” means encountering them physically, face-to-face.  Over the past few years I’ve had dozens of Em exchanges and a fair-few telephone conversations with the toughest anti-sludge advocate I know, Maureen Reilly.  But I’ve never had the chance to shake her hand or give her a “real,” i.e., non-verbal, hug.  Now that she is gone, at the age of 58, I feel like I’ve known her all my life.  That lady had, well . . . a presence where it matters most: in people’s hearts.

Post #530  Why Nancy Lanza was right to own the guns that killed the Sandy Hook kids.

Louie Gohmert, the Gutter Grunt’s Idiot Texan of the Year nominee

Welp, there was little doubt that even before the kids could be buried, the right wing-nuts would grab the mic and start screaming that if the teachers had been armed everything would have turned out just fine. I was expecting Allan West to be first out of the wacko-box, but an NRA nut-case Republican from Texas beat West to the draw. Louie Gohmert went on – yep, you guessed it – FOX news to spew his toxic shit about how the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School should have had an M-4 in her office, just waiting for armed loonies to come through the door so she could blow their head off – Gohmert’s phrase.

Post #529  Juan Cole milking the Sandy Hook tragedy for all he can get

Nothing quite like the slaughter of innocent children by a heavily armed nut to bring out the polemics. The NRA has their PR goons already on standby ready to adapt the ole’ more-guns-means-a-safer-America message so that it points out that if those kindergartners had only been armed, this never would have happened.

Equally as noxious will be the lefties pounding their intermittent drum for gun control – the drum that comes out not at election time when it might do some good, but only after a bunch of people get shot up. The more people shot and the younger they are, the louder the drums.

Partisans from both sides will gnaw on each other’s asses for a while and then give it up and go home once the smell of gunpowder has cleared the air.

Juan Cole is a good example. I’ll give you a direct quote:  [Keep reading. . .]

James Moody empties his clip into the body of Ernesto Duenez

James Moody, a cop for the Manteca PD, shot and killed an unarmed man named Ernesto Duenez – firing 13 rounds at the guy as he tried to get out of his truck but got his foot caught in the seatbelt. From the video it looks like murder-2 to me, but if Moody ever gets prosecuted for that it’ll be a fine day.  What was Duenez’s crime?  There was a report on him for domestic violence.  But his crime was being Hispanic in a scum-bucket California town.  Read more.

Petri dish art by Klari Reis

1.     City of brotherly love Nutter mayor slapped down by federal court.

When Democratic Philadelphia’s mayor, Michael Nutter, outlawed feeding more than three homeless people at a time, it, understandably, upset a lot of people. Nutter was, after all, treating homeless people like they were bears in Yellowstone, or annoying squirrels or pigeons in the city’s parks. So Nutter and Philadelphia got sued, and no one with a brain will be surprised that the city lost the fight against a preliminary injunction that will allow the poor to be fed until the suit is completed. Anyone with a brain will be surprised, however, to hear that Nutter is appealing the preliminary injunction to the federal circuit court. How many of these people could Philadelphia treat and feed with the money that will be going into the lawyers’ pockets? Thousands.

2.     Israel Supreme Court flips off the Hague Convention and shields kiddie kidnappers.

Israel has ignored many UN resolutions over the last 60 years and has refused to sign the non-proliferation treaty; consequently, Israel is considered by many, including many Americans, to be a rogue state. Now more evidence supporting this view: refusal to abide by the Hague Convention on Child Abduction. This is a treaty, signed by Israel, that requires a state to which a child has been abducted to return the child to its home state.  Most of these cases come up when one parent steals the children and runs off to another country to avoid court orders. The problem is that Israel considers itself to be the “homeland” of all Jews. So, for instance, when a Jewish abducts her child and takes the child to Israel, Israel thumbs its nose at the Child Abduction Treaty and at the US court’s orders. At least that’s what the Israel Supreme Court has done in the Ben-Haim case.  Oshrat Ben-Haim, who abducted her child to Israel, has been indicted in NJ on 2 counts of contempt of court and 6 counts of, essentially, kidnapping and the Israeli court says “screw you, the kid is a Jew.”  The case is important to every Jewish parent in the US b/c if Israel lets parents abduct children to Israel with immunity from prosecution, then every Jew mother and father in the US is a potential victim of having their child stolen by the other parent.

3. Is Fukushima heating up again?

Prior to the 3/11 EQ and tsunami that plastered Japan, the area underwent a period of fairly high-frequency, moderate EQ’s.  In the last few days there has been a double-whammy killer EQ in Iran, and today a huge 7.7 Richter off the coast of Russia, just north of Japan.  According to the very helpful Nicholls Japan EQ map, the frequency of moderate EQ’s around Japan is also picking up.  The problem is that Reactor #4 at Daiichi is not stable; it is listing to one side.  Some experts have predicted that if it goes over the release of radioactivity from the stored fuel rods will threaten the entire human species, and certainly all the human species on the west coast of North America.

4.  Chris Hedges let’s it rip.  Tattoo this article on your forehead.

Writer Chris Hedges is one of the brave plaintiffs suing Obama and Congress for passing a law that can be used to take any American off the sidewalk and put him/her into permanent administrative detention, the same way the Israelis do the Palestinians.  In an article published yesterday he let’s it rip — pretty well saying what needs to be said.  Here is his summary of the presidential election :

They each [Obama and Romney] intend to let Wall Street loot the U.S. Treasury with impunity. Neither will lift a finger to help the long-term unemployed and underemployed, those losing their homes to foreclosures or bank repossessions, those filing for bankruptcy because of medical bills or college students burdened by crippling debt. Listen to the anguished cries of partisans on either side of the election divide and you would think this was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of darkness. You would think voting in the rigged political theater of the corporate state actually makes a difference. The charade of junk politics is there not to offer a choice but to divert the crowd while our corporate masters move relentlessly forward, unimpeded by either party, to turn all dissent into a crime.

Violent monkeys with guns, no sign of brains.  When the book the Bell-Shaped Curve came out, there was a lot of PC angst and a lot of accusations that the idea that different races have different strengths and weaknesses was . . . well, racist.  Fair enough, too.  The Gary Larson cartoon below combined with this vid of a busted jewelry store robbery last week in Garden Grove, CA prove that we are all cut from the same bolt.  Whites, blacks, smart, dumb — we all sometimes push when we should be pulling and vice versa.  Watch the vid closely, initially the idiot can’t figure out that he has to push to open the door to the jewelry store, and then at the end as these clowns rush out of the store with bullets flying you will see the sign facing the outside of the door that says “PUSH” with letters that are at least 4 inches high.  These monkeys got it wrong going in both directions, but getting simple things wrong while being shot at by a 65 yo grandmother is understandable.  Too bad she wasn’t a better shot, but even with no blood stains the vid is a damn good advertisement for the NRA and Glock.

Transparency and dirty judges.   Back in 1980 I got screwed by a Virginia state judge named Herbert Pickford.  Pickford sat on the bench in a jury trial in which I, the defendant, never even got an invitation, and, with no one to object, he handed down a $60,000 default judgment to a buddy and former client of his named Diane Brubaker.  The whole case, over a $5 bar-tab dispute, was absolutely filthy from beginning to end.  I didn’t learn of the connection between Pickford and Brubaker for almost 15 years.  When I eventually became a lawyer, I learned that in US federal courts, in each lawyer in a case is required to file a document disclosing any conflicts of interest he/she may have in the case.  I’ve always thought that it was the judges who ought to be formally disclosing any conflicts or, if there are none, making a record of that.  But it is, apparently, an insult to the judiciary to suggest that judges should make the same type of disclosures lawyers are required to make.  Now we have an interesting plan from New Zealand where judges will be required to file a public statement every year of all their financial connections.  Not as good as having the judges make a public record for each and every case, but at least it’s better than the US where dirty judges go undetected for years, and in many cases forever.  BTW, after I was sued in Virginia I went to NZ.  When the dirty judgment followed me there, the NZ courts threw it out as being a fraud.  Even after becoming a Virginia lawyer I never lost track of this important truth: some countries that don’t even have a constitution have a much, much higher appreciation of and sensitivity for justice than do America, Americans, and America’s judiciary.

Arrogant politicians and the death penalty  The laws of Oregon provide for the death penalty for certain extreme cases of murder, and, according to the UK Guardian, that’s what Gary Haugen got: the death sentence.  He was already serving life for killing his girlfriend’s mother when he stabbed a fellow inmate dozens of times and bashed his head in.  The guy obviously has anger-management problems so extreme that the death penalty is probably the only “viable” treatment. But Oregon’s governor John Kitzhaber says screw the law, there’ll be no executions on his watch, and so he commuted Haugen’s death sentence without Haugen’s request.  But Haugen, arguing he has a right to his own death sentence, sued Kitzhaber and won.  Now, apparently, Oregon is appealing in order not to carry out a death sentence its courts imposed and upheld according to its own laws.  Only in America, folks.  Only in America.

Protecting the Auschwitz brand.  Any goyim who uses the word “Auschwitz” publicly without checking with Uncle Abe Foxman over at the Anti-Defamation League is gonna’ get spanked.  A lot of these Jews think they’ve earned the right to the Auschwitz brand and nobody who’s not a Jew is gonna’ utter the word without their prior approval.  The most recent incident is interesting because the Auschwitz miscreant is none other than Israel-firster and AIPAC ass-kisser, House Republican from Orange County, California, Dana Rohrabacher.  So Uncle Abe and the ADL is, in effect, biting the hand it feeds.

Another reason the US Constitution is a suicide pact.  In this al Jazeera analysis, the US comes out as the world’s gun capitol.  No surprise there.  On a per capita basis it has 1.6 times more gun owners than the next closest — Yemen.  But the analysis is flawed b/c gun ownership laws are state laws.  The analysis ought not be averaged out over the entire country; it ought to treat each US state as its own country for international comparisons.  In which case, a dozen states would easily be the world’s gun capitols.  Which states?  Here’s  your typical red-blue 2012 presidential election map. And below that is al-Jazeera’s interactive map showing rates of gun deaths in the US.  The darkest orange means the highest per capita rate of death-by-guns.  See any coincidences?  Me, too, which is why I’m writing this.  The good news is that it’s the right wing-nuts who are killing each other.  Mostly.

Hunker down east coast, it’s gonna’ be a nasty one.   I don’t normally do weather forecasts on the Daily Dish; the Zionists keep me plenty busy forecasting the end of the world as it is.  But the storm stretching from OK to NH yesterday that was supposed to be a whopper on the Right Coast has pooped out.  But that’s not the one to worry about.  It’s the one now moving east over Colorado — 10am Jul27 PDT.  There is so much energy in the system from months of scorching weather and blistering ad hominem political attacks that this one is sure to let rip when that low hits the coastal high.  Keep safe East Coast right wing-nuts, left wing-nuts, Republicans, Democrats, and all you gun-toting red-necks wherever you are.

Is the word “nigger” ever appropriate?  The level of personal brutality of some South African blacks, and some African blacks in general, is unprecedented in my experience.  Sure, white, techno-nations commit their share of “impersonal brutality” with drones and cruise missiles, but from the gruesome “necklacing” and butchery of the Soweto days, to the Rwanda genocides, to the mass massacres by dictators like Idi Amin and the Revolutionary United Front backed by Charles Taylor, I cannot recall any other face-to-face brutality in modern history that match those perpetrated by African blacks, mostly against each other.  Now from Walkerville, S.A. we get this story of blacks murdering a white family — raping the woman, shooting her and her husband, and drowning their gagged and bound son in scalding water.  And it just makes you wonder.  This photo from Beeld newspaper shows Sipho Mbele (left) and Patrick Peter Radebe (right), who pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and one each of rape.  They were laughing on the way out of the courtroom.  Radebe’s smirk is evident even while he’s standing in the dock.

More antisemite Jews squelching academic free speech in America.  I have previously brought to your attention the disgusting attempts of antisemite Zionist Jews to cut off the academic free speech of David Klein at USC-Northridge.  Now comes this story from North Carolina State University where the antisemite Zionist Jews have been able to block a tenure appointment of a favored faculty member Terri Ginsberg, who dares to raise the question of Palestinian rights.  Generally, loss of tenure means loss of a job in academia.  Although it’s an awfully long shot to claim a tenure right in the courts, Ginsberg sued NCSU for discrimination and lost.  The NC Supreme Court has refused to review. Here are some of the groups who supported her: British Committee for the Universities of Palestine, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the U.S. Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, Jewish Voice for Peace-Westchester, WESPAC Foundation, Committee for Open Discussion of Zionism, and Association des Universitaires pour le Respect du Droit International en Palestine.  They are not just promoting justice in Palestine; they are promoting free speech in the US.  While the antisemite Zionists, led by the likes of Abe Foxman and the Anti-Defamation League, are going after American academic Jews speaking out for justice in Palestine now, they will soon come for anyone who dares to speak out against Israeli aparthed.

Jimmy unloads again.  He was one of the first to call apartheid Israeli “apartheid.”  Now Jimmy Carter unloads on America, and it’s about time somebody did.  In yesterday’s NYT, Carter makes it absolutely clear how badly post-9/11 America has lost its way.  Although he doesn’t say why, I will: America’s moral decline is due not to terrorists, or Arabs, or Muslims, or even 9/11; it is due to the neo-cons and the Israelis.  9/11 was only their excuse.  I don’t know whether America in 2012 is more accurately described a pitiful, or sick, or a disgrace to the world, but I do know that after almost a complete term in office, Obama has only contributed to the problem.  Carter is also diplomatic enough not to say that . . . explicitly.  Carter’s reference point is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  It is well worth reading.  It should cause you to wonder how America could be so incredibly far from that ideal.  If you wonder, like I did, who drafted that incredible document, it was a Canadian.  John Peters Humphrey.

Please meet the wisest person in the world.   Nurit Peled-Elhanan is a prof of education at Hebrew U. of Jerusalem.  She is working to end Israeli apartheid.  She has published a book that shows how the Israeli textbooks are brain-washing Israeli K-12 children to hate Palestinians. That doesn’t make her the wisest person in the world — many Israeli Jews are fighting hard to end Israeli oppression of the Palestinians and many write books supporting Palestinians and exposing apartheid.  But how many Israeli Jews have lost a 13 year old daughter to a Palestinian suicide bomber and have become a peace activist advocating for the rights of Palestine?  In this Guardian article from 2011 Prof. Peled-Elhanan says   “Change . . .will only come ‘when the Americans stop providing us with $1m a day to maintain this regime of occupation and racism and supremacy’”. That, to me, is the most important and the most insightful message of all. Only Americans have the wherewithal to stop the corrosive effects of Israeli apartheid, and to avert some horrible nuclear blow-out in the ME. This wonderful woman is another example of how this conflict is bringing out the best of the best Jews and the worst of the worst ones, both in Israel and the US.  Here is a You Tube of an interview with her
